Glass art pieces as unique as those who wear them.

L. Wessel is a mixed-media artist, whose jewelry line uses borosilicate glass, metal and fabric. The end results are wearable art pieces that are fun, expressive, and unexpected.

When I create jewelry, I start with an idea, but I’m open to the glass leading me in another direction; it’s very organic. I like fluid shapes, imperfections and inconsistencies, colors that evoke a feeling or mood, and the play of different textures against one another.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I create all my work by hand, from flameworking the glass to assembling the chain (I don’t make the chain, though) and I don’t use molds, so each pieces is unique.

  • No two pieces of my jewelry are going to be the same. I do make multiple versions, some times in the same colors, of pieces in my core collection - Journey, Detour, Daydream, Collared, and Chained necklaces and earrings.

I occasional do a limited series, like the Melted Heart necklaces with a similar theme but different design and colors, but when they are done, they are done. The one-offs will never be duplicated.

  • I use stainless steel because it tends to be hypoallergenic, due to having no or low nickel content. I cannot promise it will work with everyone, but I’ve had good luck with it and I have trouble wearing other metals.

It’s also strong, resistant to tarnishing, and cost effective - using stainless steel instead of silver, gold, or platinum helps me keep my prices low, so my work is more affordable.
